Ann Arbor Summer Camp Spotlight: Camp Green Things



Camp Green Things is a brand new farm based camp, and they are so excited about their first season. Camp Green Things is targeting families who are looking to be part of an innovative new program. For their pilot year, they will be starting small and are hoping to grow. In addition to summer camps, they offer educational workshops and programs for individual families. 

Q: What is Camp Green Things?
A: Camp Green Things is a place-based and project oriented day camp and education center located on Green Things Farm.

Q: What are your dates/times/ages/cost/address?
A: Dates:  July 7-11July 21-25, and then August 4-8
     Time: 8:45am-4pm
     Ages: 8-12 years
     Cost: $280 (need-based scholarships available)
     Address: 3825 Nixon Road Ann Arbor

Q: What type of child might really enjoy Camp Green Things?
A: A curious kid who loves the outdoors and is interested in farm skills and environmental sciences

Q: What are some highlights campers will really look forward to?
A: Learning about local ecology garden skills, meeting new friends, and creating an everlasting mark on the farm through community projects. 

Q: What does a typical day at Camp Green Things look like?
A: Parent drop off, morning games, farm chores, free play, team challenge, snack time, forest ecology, lunch, free play, green building project, farm skills, wrap up and daily reflection.

Q: After attending Camp Green Things kids will...
A: Have an understanding of sustainable farm and garden practices, know more about their local ecology and have better leadership skills. 

Q: Anything parents need to know about food/transportation, etc.?
A: Campers will bring a sack lunch but the camp will provide a snack.

Q: What else should we know about Camp Green Things?
A: Our curriculum concepts focus on place-based and project-based learning. Sustainable Agriculture will be a major component as well as small scale green building, garden design projects, and local ecology (there is an amazing woods on the property!).
